China is one of the world's oldest civilizations, and is believed to have established the state system in B.C. 4600 which lasted for 3000 years.
Although many Chinese supporters claim that their history extends 5,000 years, it is universally acknowledged that only 3,000 years of history can actually be traced from the historical data. There is no controversy, however, about the origin of the Chinese civilization--the northern part of the Yellow River Valley. In the 5th century B.C., China entered the Feudal Age. By the 2nd century B.C., China had become a united multi-ethnic Imperial country with abundant culture. Only one century later, China had ascended to become one of the richest countries in the world. Throughout history, China has experienced glorious periods such as the Han, Sui, Tang and Ming dynasties. By the 13th century A.D., China reached a summit and became one of the most burgeoning trading and cultural centers in the world. China contributed enormously to scientific development with its agriculture discoveries and labor industry. Their four greatest inventions are the compass, papermaking, printing and gunpowder.
